Grammy award-winning artiste, Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, has recently shown his dedication to his community. He paid a heartfelt visit to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).
A surprise visit
Burna Boy made an unannounced trip to UPTH, where he reportedly generously paid all the patients’ medical bills. Videos captured at the scene show Burna Boy exiting the hospital, surrounded by ecstatic fans. The footage shows the euphoric atmosphere while fans praised the singer.
This extraordinary act of kindness from the Afrobeats superstar has gone viral on the internet. Additionally, some videos also show Burna sharing cash with students of the University of Port Harcourt.
Burna Boy was heard saying “Na only love I come show my people o, those people wey need financial assistance like school fees” during his brief speech, which was abruptly cut off due to the rowdiness of the environment.
His act of kindness has put him in a good light and will never be forgotten. It makes it obvious that he understands the power and responsibility that comes with fame and influence.
Burna Boy’s history with Port Harcourt dates back to 2 July 1991 when he was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. After finishing his master’s at the University of Sussex, he worked as an intern at Rhythm 93.7 FM in Port Harcourt.
He launched his music career shortly after and has gone on to create a name for himself. He has numerous awards under his belt, including a BET Award for Best International Act, a Grammy for Best Global Music Album, and a Billboard Music Award for Top Afrobeats Artist among others.
Interestingly, he is the first African artist to perform at the Grammy Awards.
