Bello promises to tackle water scarcity in Niger

abubakar-sani-bello1GOVERNOR Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has promised to tackle headlong the problem of water scarcity in Minna, the state capital as well as in other cities in the state.

Bello, who made the promise in Minna during an inspection tour of Chanchaga Water Works, said it was time for the government to take a holistic measure in tackling the problem to ensure adequate water supply to the residents of the state.

He said his administration was going to undertake turn-around maintenance of all the equipment at the water works so as to increase production capacity from the present 20% to at least 80% in addition to ensuring the reticulation of water in all parts of the state.

The governor explained that the equipment at the water plant were installed over 30 years ago and had not received total maintenance since then.
He directed the permanent secretary in the state Ministry of Water Resources to produce a comprehensive plan for the efficient water supply to the people, adding that people must also be ready to pay bills for water consumed.
The governor said that he was doing his best to turn things round in the state adding that people will soon start to benefit immensely from the works that had been put in place by the administration.

He said the construction of Kuta Road in Minna would soon be completed, adding that government had released some funds for the final phase of the project.
