Tears flowed freely, yesterday, as the remains of the former senator that represented Enugu North Senatorial zone in the National Assembly, Ayogu Eze, was laid to rest.

Eze’s remains were committed to mother earth at about 1.45pm at his Umuida country home in Igboeze North Local Council, Enugu State. He died at the age of 65 years.

Delivering a homily at the church service presided over by the Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Igwebuike Onah, National Coordinator, Catholic Choirs in Nigeria, Very Rev Dr George Abah, spoke about the futility of life, explaining, however, that death was not an end as much as one was in Christ.

Making biblical references from the books of Hebrews, Ecclesiastes and Romans, he stated that life without Christ was a wasted one.

“Death is part of a system. Every life has death. There’s time for everything. Death is not separated from life.”

Everyone seated here today will go the way of mortals. Death should no longer frighten us. We must all respond to call of death as it is not a total humiliation. But every death died in Christ will know life,” he said

Abah stated that it was irrational for anyone to think that he would protect life, stressing that anyone born was free to die any day.

He decried Nigeria’s current economic situation, saying that it had been so because the people never cared for one another.

He said that Ayogu Eze had run his race and would continue to live in the minds of those he touched.

At the burial ceremony were Minister of Science and Innovation, Uche Nnaji; Deputy Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ossai; Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuayi; Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe, Okey Ezea; Obinna Ogba, Chukwuka Utazi, several house of representatives members among others.
