National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, may have resigned, ahead of tomorrow’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party. Sources revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prevailed on the embattled chairman to throw in the towel.

It is believed National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, would follow suit. The purported resignation is believed to have been attributed to their inability to account for over N80 billion earned by the party through sale of nomination and expression of interest forms to aspirants in the build up to the general elections.

An official of the party, who pleaded anonymity, believed the story surrounding Adamu’s resignation could be true. He said: “Nothing is impossible regarding his resignation. We were together on Thursday, and his conduct on that day suggested he was not a happy man. I even overheard him saying he was not ready to go into a fight with anybody to remain chairman of the party.

“He was alone in the office. He asked everyone to leave the office and was busy writing a very lengthy letter that lasted over three hours. So, if they say he has resigned, it is very possible.”

APC’s National Vice Chairman (North West) and vitriolic critic of Adamu, Dr Salihu Lukman, cited absence of quarterly reports of income and expenditure of the party as one of several infractions committed under the chairman’s tenure.

He said during a chat with reporters, last week: “By the provision of Article 13 (4.4) of the APC constitution, we are obligated to present quarterly reports of income and expenditure of the party. I want to say this, for the records, since we came, we have never been presented, even at the last NEC of April 2022; we have not been presented financial reports till today. I challenge both the national chairman and the national secretary. They have never presented to the NWC any financial statement.”
