• Adamu lacks capacity to declare gov’s health status, PDP reiterates
• Agent provocateurs fanning embers of discord, Aiyedatiwa laments

Ondo State Government has described as false the statement allegedly credited to National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, that the Governor of the State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is currently incapacitated.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, in a statement, yesterday, described the report as not only mischievous but also a wicked and insensitive reportage sponsored by desperate politicians.

Ademola-Olateju urged people of the state and Nigerians to ignore the news item and its contents, saying the National Chairman of the APC was quoted out of context.

She maintained that the news exists in the realm of the imagination of workers of iniquity and those behind the publication.

The commissioner stressed that state party chairman, Ade Adetimehin, who was at the meeting, had said that Adamu only prayed for quick recovery of the ailing governor.

The statement noted: “The attention of Ondo State government has been drawn to a report credited to Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on July 11, 2023.

“The headline, “Akeredolu in state of extreme incapacity, hospitalised,” bore a tinge of the mischievous, wicked and insensitive reportage sponsored by desperate politicians.

“The National Chairman was indeed excited at reports on the rate of recovery of the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and urged all those present at the meeting to pray for his quick return.”

“The governor is not incapacitated. He will return to his duty as soon as the doctors certify him fully fit to do so.”

HOWEVER, the state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, in a statement, said Adamu lacked the capacity to reveal the health status of Akeredolu.

According to the party’s Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, the alleged confirmation of the governor’s health status and the position of the state government signified that the state and the Federal Government are in disconnect with issues about the governor.

“Abdullahi’s opinion on Akeredolu’s health has merely added petrol to a raging fire in Ondo State. The responses from the state government and the APC proved clearly that there is disconnect between the national leadership and the party in the state,” the opposition party said.

A disconnect that is evident in the appointments made so far by Bola Tinubu’s administration, in which Ondo State is completely missing,” the opposition party stated.

MEANWHILE, the Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has stated that some faceless individuals, whom he described as agent provocateurs, have been sowing discord in the state with the aim of tarnishing the reputations of government officials to divert attention from crucial issues to serve their own selfish political agenda.

He said: “The attention of the State Government has been drawn to some orchestrated falsehoods, insinuations, and negative write-ups, particularly in the print and social media, with a view to causing disharmony and disaffection within the polity.

“These tactics of faceless writers and agent provocateurs are intended to fan the embers of discord, tarnish the hard-earned reputations of individuals in government circles, and distract government attention in order to take political advantage in any manner to please their own selfish political whims and caprices.”
