The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it is investigating more celebrities for abuse of the naira.
EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale said this in a statement following the sentencing of popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky to six months imprisonment.

He added that increasingly, members of the public are drawing the attention of the Commission to video recording of abuse of the Naira by Nigerians from all walks of life.
According to him, these gestures amply demonstrate rising consciousness of the public to the sanctity of Nigeria’s national currency and the need for collaborative engagement to sustain the tempo.
“To this end, the Commission will always investigate and prosecute anyone involved in the abuse of the Naira,” Oyewale said.
“Old videos being exhumed and flying around for the attention of the Commission are noted.
“The Commission is sensitive to the fact that its Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarization of the economy commenced operations on February 7, 2024.

“However, going forward, new videos of such infractions will be investigated and prosecuted. At the moment, the Commission is investigating several celebrities involved in Naira abuse.”
Oyewale stated that many of the celebrities have made useful statements to the Commission and many more have been invited by investigators working on the matter.
He added that the EFCC will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Friday sentenced Bobrisky, to six months in custody without option of fine over mutilation of the naira.
The social media influencer was arraigned and convicted on April 5 on a four-count charge bordering on mutilation of the naira notes to the tune of N490,000.
Upon his plea at that last proceeding, the court had reserved sentence to April 9 and ordered that Bobrisky be remanded in custody of the EFCC pending sentence.
The judge, while sentencing the convict, said the judgment would be a deterrent to others that are found of abusing and mutilating the naira.
