ADC to build youth empowerment pool in Africa

African Democratic Congress (ADC) has concluded plans for a global campus empowerment programme to engage Nigerian youths.

The programme is aimed at promoting leadership fellowship, training, skill acquisition in the fields of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), agriculture-related businesses, textiles and cooperative ventures.

According to the National Publicity Secretary of ADC, Mabel Oboh, pilot projects and funding schemes are in progress.

He stated: “The programme was unveiled by the National Chairman, Chief Ralphs Nwosu, when he received ADC candidate for the 2023 Kogi governorship election, Leke Abejide, and some party stakeholders at the ADC Global campus in Abuja.”

Nwosu, at the unveiling, noted that a famous educationist, Dr. Mani Ahmad, and his team designed a robust ICT and innovative educational programme and “will play a central role in ensuring that the initiatives become not only successful in tackling unemployment and poverty in the country, but also a tool to change the dynamics and culture of our politics, political party membership, management and leadership.”

He added: “Reskilling for all, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship, not minding the background, should be the path to the new Nigeria we seek.”

While explaining that skill acquisition workshops would be hosted across the nation for party members and the general public, Nwosu said: “We see this as an important step to take as our contribution to empower youths, which will impact economic growth.

“ADC’s DNA encourages self-growth, as well as contributions from organisations to the growth of our economy, and not relying on the government alone,” he noted.

The party also revealed that its former presidential aspirant, Dr. Chukwuka Monye, would sponsor an ADC Agricultural Community Impact Competition, where three farmers from three different local councils would be provided with seed capital for farming in the pilot programme.

It added that the select farmers would be evaluated after three months and the winner would bag additional funding.

Oboh noted that Abejide pledged to increase his educational empowerment to states across Kogi.

Having maintained his scholarship programme and payment of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees for students across Yagba federal constituency, Abejide said he would unfold his roadmap to make Kogi the Confluence hub of Nigeria.
