Group Decries Women Exclusion In State Politics

THE World Health Organisation (WHO) has lauded Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s maternal health care initiative and chosen Mother and Child Hospitals in Akure and Ondo as research centres for child and maternal health care delivery.

This was disclosed by the Head of the Reproductive Health and Research (WHO), Dr. Femi Oladapo made during a courtesy visit to the governor in his office, Akure.

Oladapo said that results from the Mother and Child initiative have been so impressive and will help the research to improve on the quality of care for pregnant women during labour in the society.

The WHO representative, who noted that the International Health Organisation is looking forward to creating better tools for labour monitoring, also added that the achievements so far, would have positive bearing on the WHO research.

Meanwhile, President of the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria, Prof. Brian Adinma, during another courtesy visit by the society to Governor Mimiko in Akure, commended the Mimiko-led administration’s Abiye Safe Motherhood Initiative, which he noted has received both local and international accolades.

He posited that the initiatives should be a model and template globally, urging the governor to ensure the continuation of the Mother and Child Hospitals after the expiration of his tenure. He disclosed that the society would develop mutual partnership with the state.
