The group said: “We urge INEC to do a comprehensive lesson on the use of BVAS. It should have an independent evaluation of BVAS use and should develop a full plan accordingly…”
The Chief Observer, EU EOM, Marie Arena, spoke, yesterday, during the release of the report on the status of implementation of the 30 recommendations made by EOM after the 2019 general elections.
Meanwhile, the group also urged Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) to ensure gender inclusiveness in political parties’ activities.
Arena, spoke when she led a delegation on a courtesy visit to IPAC. She said she had met with the civil society, government and political parties to make inputs on the best design for the 2023 general elections.
IPAC National Chairman, Yabagi Sani, called on the EU not to relent in its commitment to building democracy, good governance, peace and security in Nigeria.
Sani also asked the delegation to assist political parties with computer hard-wares and human capacity training in the use and application of information and communications technology (ICT).
Also, the EU commended President Buhari for signing into law the Electoral Bill, saying: “We hope this time will be well-used to try and reduce some of the problems we have seen in past elections, with overlapping jurisdictions and conflicting judgments.”
The EOM, however, lamented the lack of tangible action regarding women’s political participation following the National Assembly’s rejection of bills to increase opportunities for women in politics.
