1,213 firms complied with data protection regulation, says NITDA

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has disclosed that 1,213 firms have complied with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).

A statement, signed by NITDA’s Head of Corporate and External Affairs, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, titled, ‘NITDA publishes a list of NDPR-compliant organisations for 2020-2021,’ confirmed this development.

According to NITDA, “the list is an authoritative repository of organisations that have prioritised compliance with the NDPR, and has become a reference point for global law firms, multinationals, investors, and compliance enthusiasts.


“The list indicates those organisations that have undergone the NDPR Audit process to ascertain their level of compliance and identify areas for improvement.”

The agency noted that all the listed organisations had engaged a data protection compliance organisation to train their staff, and to implement basic data protection protocols.

NITDA informed that the 1,213 organisations operate in 13 sectors, namely health, transport and logistics, public sector, industrial and extractive, ICT and media, energy and power, education, finance, commerce and consulting.

Some of the companies as listed on NITDA’s website include, Dangote, LG Electronics, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Honeywell Flour Mills Plc, Nestle Nigeria Plc, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, Airtel Nigeria Networks Limited, and Safeboda Nigeria Limited; Schneider Electric Systems Limited; C&I Leasing; UAC Of Nigeria Plc; Jumia Technologies Ag; Sheraton Hotel Lagos; CARS 45; Aramex Delivery Services Ltd, among others.
